Mental Wellness

Are we more stressed today than we are 20 years ago?  Well, it depends who you are directing this question to.  I could say I was more stressed 20 years ago as I started working and building my career.

People say that Gen Z require more mental support, I think all generations require mental support.  When I was younger I had my good share of stress.  I wish the people around me had that awareness of mental wellbeing in those days when I was younger.

We blame technology as the cause of mental health issues.  Actually it's not technology to be blamed but the people using technology.  If you are obsessing over the number of likes or subscribers on your YouTube channel or Tiktok content, you would be a rather anxious person who doesn't spend much time on other activities.

Obsession on any one activity is unhealthy.  For example if you only like running, and you do nothing but that.  All that running will lead to injuries to your body.  Do things in moderation.  For me, I do different things to occupy my time and it helps with my mental wellbeing.

To take care of your mental health, do the things that you enjoy but do them in moderation.  Your physical health is linked to your mental health, so keep fit by exercising and eating healthy food.

I realised the benefits and differences between cycling and walking when destressing.  Cycling makes you focus on the road ahead, you can't let your mind wander too much.  You can't get lost in your thoughts, you need to be alert to avoid obstacles and danger.

Walking which is much slower than cycling, allows you to get lost in your thoughts.  You still need to watch out for any obstacles and danger, but since your pace is much slower, you can allow your mind to wander much more.  Walking helps me solve things, cycling helps me keep my mind off work.  That's the balance.

Keep healthy as though you live to a 100 😀
